last 24 hours. cbs 5 reporter elissa harrington at sfo this morning to tell us what passengers can expect if they have flights today. elissa. >> reporter: frank, passengers can expect more cancellations at all three bay area airports. this storm has crippled air travel grounding nearly 14,000 flights stranding travelers. more than 200 flights have been canceled out of sfo alone. destinations affected include hubs like jfk, boston, washington, d.c., philadelphia and newark. about a quarter of flights in the united states pass in and out of new york so travelers all over are feeling a ripple effect. even if you're not trying to fly to the east coast, you still need to check your flight status. in fact, yesterday i spoke with a woman trying to get to boise, idaho. her flight was cancelled because of the domino effect. even overseas travelers have had to deal with cancellations so at sfo, so far more than 200 flights canceled out of oakland jetblue flights to new york and d.c. were canceled. in san jose, two jetblue flights to boston and jfk have been canceled through wednesday. >> giv

a flight from sfo to miami, that was a 6:40 flight, we just got off the phone with american airlines they confirm the flight was cancelled due to a problem with loose seats on the plane. the airline is taking 44 flights out of service today. all 757's boeing airplanes, passenger seats have been come character tarb -- have been coming loose on four other flights. american has blamed delays and cancellations on a slow down by pilots with whom they are having a labor contract dispute with. we will continue to follow the story. >>> contra costa county health officials say a man has died from rabies the first such death in 20 years. in march, the man was bitten by a bat in late june the man developed symptoms vile vacationing in thailand, he died in a swiss hospital. tests confirmed rabies was the cause. once symptoms develop rabies is almost always fatal. the man worked in iraq. contra costa county health officials plan a news conference this morning. >>> albany police releasing more details of arrest of a middle schoolteacher who later committed suicide. for the first time police confir

, sfo being impacted by sandy. just got an impact -- just got an update. a total of 150 flights have been cancelled -- canceled. here is a look at the board this morning. there is a flight to washington, d.c. weather cancellations are being felt for many east coast destinations. >> sfo to six key cities, boston, philadelphia, new york, newark, washington, d.c. and baltimore. any one trying to get to those cities may have to bait several days. most of the -- may have to wait several days. other flights are feeling the effect, american, jetblue, virgin, u.s. airways and delta. the airlines are trying to book people on other flights. this storm is causing major problems causing a significant effect on the west coast. it's difficult to say how long the cancellations are gonna extend to, obviously all of the frights are -- flights are canceled for today. i think it's reasonable to expect some cancellations tomorrow. the best advice for passengers and stay in touch with their airline. >> reporter: tsa representative told me this morning, the volume, in terms of passengers here seems very l

noon, kristen is live at sfo where the giants took off to let us know how they are feeling for the setied one game each. >> reporter: they are on the way to st. louis to play game three in the national league championship series. the team gathered at at&t park earlier this morning. ktvu was there as pitchers sergio romo and tim linscomb loaded up on the buses, to be ready for the three games to be played in busch stadium. they head to st. louis with the series tied one game apiece. ball players boarded the buses and got an escort here to sfo. we were the only camera crew here for the departure. they loaded in a secure area behind closed doors and took off in a cloud of glory with the fire hose salute from the airport. the team is set to land in a few hours. the giants set to play game three in the series tomorrow. meanwhile, ktvu crews are also headed to st. louis now. we will have team coverage for you of the nlcs in st. louis. the giants return to the bay area october 21st and 22nd for game six and seven if they are necessary and a reminder, you can watch the entire nlcs champion
